About Us: In AdventureLand, we believe the Bible should never be boring, worship can be really loud and good leaders always care. Before kids head off to G.L.U.E. (youth), and middle school we want to make sure these 3 things stick: 1. I need to make the wise choice. 2. I can trust God no matter what. 3. I should treat others the way I want to be treated. We focus on 3 areas in AdventureLand, large group, small group and worship. We want kids to see how God's Word fits into their lives, to learn how to talk to Him, to learn how to praise Him through worship, and to build friendships that will last. That's why we feel it's important to make sure your child connects with the same friends, same leader, at the same hour - Every Sunday!
Morning at a Glance: What happens in AdventureLand? Kids are challenged every Sunday to trust God, make wise choices, and build lasting friendships. Here's what a typical morning in AdventureLand looks like.
Welcome/Registration: Each child is greeted by our registration team and volunteers as you enter AdventureLand. After registration there are a number of activities for your child to do before service begins. 1. New to AdventureLand: Check in at registration desk, where we will collect child's name, grade, and any allergies/restrictions and where your child will receive a temporary name tag. After the 3rd visit, we ask the parent to complete a registration card and at this time a permanent name tag will be prepared for the child.
2. Regular Attendee: Check in at registration desk, where we will give the respective name tag to the child and a coordinating "parent tag" to the parent, or individual dropping off the child.
3. Parent Expectation: We ask that each parent or guardian escort your child(ren) into AdventureLand and receive a parent tag, and at the end of each service to come back and pick that child up by matching the child tag number to the corresponding parent tag.
Large Group Environment: When service starts at 9:00 or 10:45 am, kids are moved to their large group environment where they hear the Bible story. We use costumes, props, and characters from the story - anything that makes the Bible come to life.
Small Group Environment: After large group, kids go to their age appropriate small group's where their leaders help them understand how the day's bottom line can fit into their everyday life. Small Group leaders in AdventureLand are serious about having fun with kids and passionate about teaching the TRUTH. Every Sunday they connect with the same small group of kids and the same small group leader.
Worship: After small group we gather together for worship where we can really be loud putting movement to worship songs.
Curriculum: We use 252 Basics, a web-based curriculum for K-5th graders. Based on Luke 2:52, the curriculum built around our Three Basic Truths. 1. Wisdom: I need to make the wise choice. 2. Faith: I can trust God no matter what. 3. Friendship: I should treat others the way I want to be treated. The Three Basic Truths are amplified through 36 monthly virtues (such as kindness, genorisity and faith) and 150 Bible stories. Every week there is a key TRUTH or bottom line that we drive home. It's the ONE THING we want kids to understand and grab onto during their hour in AdventureLand. God Time Cards (distributed to Kids from September thru May): Four short devotions for children each week to focus their attention as they spend time reading the Bible and talking to God at home. Refrigerator Door Cards (distributed to parents from September thru May) When you drop off your kids at the registration desk, we'll give you a printed piece that gives you the virtue and its definition, a monthly memory verse, the bottom line, a question to prompt discussion and a preview of what we'll be talking about next week.
Volunteering: Every Sunday dozens of volunteers show up and work together in their unique role to create an amazing environment for our kids. AdventureLand is totally volunteer fueled and would not exist without the leadership and expertise of our volunteers. Each volunteer has a part to play on our team. Some of the volunteer roles are: Small Group Leader: serves as the primary role model for the same group of eight to ten kids on a weekly basis. Large Group Leader: delivers the Bible message each week to the group of K-5th grade students. Worship Leader: teaches the children Bible song through the use of music and movement. Registration Team: registers and greats each child and parent as they enter AdventureLand.
We would love to talk to you about joining our team. If you would like more information about volunteering in AdventureLand please call Kathy Pendley at 462-4777.
